The original smaller medieval fortified residence in Saint Cross (today\u2019s \u017diar nad Hronom) was rebuilt into a summer residence of the bishops of Esztergom and later became the seat of the bishops of the city of Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most important bishop who lived and worked in the Renaissance-Baroque manor house was the first chairman of a cultural organization Matica slovensk\u00e1, \u0160tefan Moyzes. In 2018, the town of \u017diar nad Hronom bought the manor house from its private owner and gradually transformed it into a tourist attraction. Since the summer of 2020, the finished exhibition of the Memorial Room of \u0160tefan Moyzes has been furnished with historic furniture and objects that belonged directly to the bishop. The bishop's hall was reconstructed and an exhibition focused on the history of the settlement of the town was added. Visitors can also enter the unreconstructed chapel and high school classroom preserved from the times of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. Adjacent to the mansion, the \u0160tefan Moyzes Park was built in the 18th century, and has preserved its popularity as a place to relax. The manor house can only be visited during guided tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
