Municipal Mansion (Žarnovica)

The former Žarnovice castle was built in the 15th century, approximately in 1480-1485. It was built by Urban Dóci of Veľká Lúča, the royal treasurer, who received Revište Castle as a gift from King Matthias Corvinus in 1479.

After the Dóczi family died out in the middle of the 17th century, the town came under the administration of the Mining Chamber in Banská Štiavnica, and later also under the Revište estate. The estate administrator resided in the mansion. While the Mining Chamber controlled the municipal mansion, the so-called Lower Mansion (“Dolný kaštiel”) was constructed in its neighbourhood.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the building was adapted into an office space. After the establishment of the First Czechoslovak Republic, it housed the Forest Office and later the Directorate of State Forests and Estates. Currently, the manor house is not used because it is awaiting reconstruction. It is currently owned by the town of Žarnovica, which is incessantly looking for opportunities to obtain the necessary funds.
