The territory of the Gron Region is situated in the valley of the middle course of the Hron River, surrounded by the Tribeč, Pohronský Inovec, Štiavnické vrchy, and Vtáčnik mountain ranges. The mountains are mainly made up of jagged young volcanic relief, which is characterised by variable height. The highest peak Vtáčnik with an altitude of 1346 m is located on the northern side of the village Kľak.
Our region is characterized by vast forests, through which you will be guided by numerous hiking and cycling trails. There are remains of mining activities in several towns and villages.
The name is derived from the historical name of the Hron River. V. Šmilauer compiled opinions on the origins of the Hron River's name found in older sources, including names such as Gran, Grana, Grain, Gron, Goron, in his book "Vodopis starého Slovenska" ("On the History of Slovak Water") back in 1932. He divided the semantic meanings into Illyrian, Celtic, Slavic, and Germanic.
The origins of the name of Hron, the most important river in the region, are not entirely clear. According to the Germanic etymology, the name of the river derives from the word "gruoni", meaning green. This etymology should be considered the most probable. Following this logic, its name derives from the character of the landscape through which the Hron River flows.
The colours associated with this logo should evoke the atmosphere of the flowing Hron River. The selected colour represents health, freshness, purity, a natural way of life. Dark blue combined with a light blue wave evokes an image of the greenswards near the blue water of the river. A goose swimming in the Hron completes the symbol. Artists used to associate this symbolism more frequently with the Upper Tekov region, also known as the "čiľej" region because of the synonym to the word "now". The goose also conveys an association with organic food in a rural setting, because the countryside makes up most of the area designated as a tourist destination. By acknowledging in the logo itself that we are and we want to be a rural region, we build a sincere and honest relationship with visitors.
