Fresh air and sport activity combined with learning? Sounds good, doesn't it? And it is indeed an accurate description of the nature trails in the central GRON region. We offer several interesting educational trails with different focuses. Let yourself be tempted by a walk with unforgettable views, unusual flora and geological formations, or the regional history.
The oldest educational trail in the region awaits you near Nová Baňa, to take you to the Vojšín hill and the Andesite Stone Sea in Malá Lehota. Another option is to take a stroll along one of the Mining Educational Trails, which offer guided walks during the tourist season. Visit the area known as Zvonička, or walk in the footsteps of bandits. The educational trail "Zbojnícké studničky" (Bandits' wells) will lead you to the unique Teich lake on the right bank of the Hron river – "Novobanský Tajch". You can get some refreshment here.
We recommend the "Penzión Tajch" guesthouse right on the lake shore. Take a walk on the nature trail from the town of Žiar nad Hronom to Šášov Castle. The trail narrates the history of nearby villages and the castle itself during a quaint 90-minute walk.
Barbora's Trail is a thematic hiking trail across the eastern part of the central GRON region. Since 2022, it has been considered an official signposted nature trail. It crosses the GRON region in Šášovské Podhradie on its way to the spa village of Sklené Teplice, Repište, and the city of Banská Štiavnica.
The longest educational trail is 32 km long. Its name is comparably long – "In the footsteps of the forest railway of the Kľak valley". The trail starts in Žarnovica and leads to the Pokúty valley, with most of the route following the route of the forest railway, which in the past transported timber from the surrounding mountains.
