Town Žarnovica is known as the only Slovak town with speedway circuit. The speedway circuit history began here with the first races in 1953. Since then, dozens of events have been held here, from the World and European Championships and European Cups to the oldest race, the Golden Helmet of the Slovak National Uprising. The speedway circuit is maintained, and most events have been organized by volunteers since 2011.

The volunteers formed the Speedway Club Žarnovica. The Speedway Club provides training for Slovak participants of races, and educates young talents. One of the founders of the Club who grew up here, is currently our most successful motorcycle rider Martin Vaculík.
