Their volcanic origins predispose mountains in our GRON Region to abound in minerals and springs of interesting chemical composition. In addition to their healing power, which you will fully appreciate in the Sklené Teplice spa, you can also discover springs and wells during your travels in the region.
SPRING OF ŽITAVA RIVER
The Žitava river springs in the village of Veľká Lehota, at an altitude of 680 metres above sea level. A narrow stream flows from a small marshland, gradually grows in volume, and becomes an almost 100 km-long river. The Žitava river ends its journey in the village of Martovce pri Hurbanove, where it flows into the Nitra river. The Žitava naturally divides its basin into the upper, middle and lower "Požitava" regions.
HOT SPRING MEDOKÝŠ IN BZENICA
Mineral water called "Medokýš", with acid sulphate content, springs to the surface in the village of Bzenica (part of Bukovina). The spring water is rich in iron and manganese, and is excellent for digestion. It is characterized by its orange color, distinctive taste, and hint of bubbles. There are three springs in the village cadastre, the most accessible of which is located at the exit of the village near the Bukovina farm. You can reach the other two springs, "Pri Hájovni" and the "New spring" (Nový prameň), after a short walk on unmarked trails visible on the map.
WELLS IN THE KĽAK VALLEY
In 2006, 7 wells were dug and restored in the Kľak valley. Each of them was devoted to a patron. These patrons are aquatic animals: spotted salamander, the Great Leech (in the village of Ostrý Grúň), river crayfish (Horné Hámre village), river trout (Hrabičov), spotted newt (Kľak), green frog (Župkov), and water spider (Píla). The wells are located alongside hiking trails or cycling paths.
