The Drift Tag is the only mining structure preserved in the Althandel shaft.
The Althandel shaft became the site where the first steam "fire" engine was used on the European continent. The atmospheric fuel-burning engine pumped groundwater from the mine to prevent mining structures from flooding. It was introduced in 1722 by English engineer Isaac Potter. Its functional model can be found in the Pohronské Museum in the town of Nová Baňa.
